The 1999 Oklahoma tornado outbreak left an indelible mark on the state's history. Occurring on May 3rd and 4th, the outbreak produced 66 tornadoes across the Central and Eastern United States, 36 of which hit Oklahoma.

Monday's Devastating Twister

On Monday afternoon, an EF5 tornado tore through the suburbs of Oklahoma City, known locally as the "May 3rd tornado." With winds reaching 302 mph, it devastated the communities of Bridge Creek and Moore, leaving 36 people dead and countless homes and businesses destroyed.

The total death toll from the tornadoes in Oklahoma reached 40, while 675 others sustained injuries. The outbreak served as a grim reminder of the immense power of nature and the vulnerability of human life in the face of severe weather.
